They All Lie

Matías Piñeiro’s second feature film follows a group of eight young people in a country house that appears to be cut off from civilisation. There, they make up stories, drink, sing songs, draw, rehearse plays, plan a robbery and play charades. As in his debut film, El Hombre Robado, the director draws on the writings of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento—writer and Argentina’s seventh president—to reflect on his country’s history, but also to reveal the power dynamics, intrigues and mistrust that take root within the group.
