Schneewittchen (Snow White) is a disenchanted reinterpretation of the classic fairy tale, inspired by Robert Walser’s text of the same name and João César Monteiro’s singular vision. Directed by Stanley Schtinter and shot by cinematographer Sean Price Williams, the film marks the long-awaited return of Julie Christie to the big screen, over a decade after her last appearance. Premiered at the Rotterdam Film Festival, the film was met with critical acclaim—with Sight & Sound magazine speculating: “Perhaps Schneewittchen itself will enter the realm of folklore.” This screening is presented in collaboration with the São João National Theatre, which is dedicating its play Snow White & Other Little Dramas to the writer and playwright Robert Walser. This is part of the initiative Cinema Goes to the Theater, Theater Goes to the Cinema—an ongoing dialogue between Batalha and TNSJ.
Screening followed by a talk with Stanley Schtinter
