Romeo + Juliet

Baz Luhrmann’s daring contemporary adaptation of William Shakespeare’s classic love story transports us to the fictitious Verona Beach, a city ruled by rival gangs where swords have been replaced by firearms. Preserving the original dialogue, Romeo and Juliet — played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes — fall in love at a masked ball and begin a forbidden affair. Amid confrontations, betrayals and violence, their relationship is put to the test. An iconic work of the 1990s, the film’s soundtrack also defined the era, with music by bands including Radiohead, Garbage and The Cardigans.
