Argentine filmmaker Matías Piñeiro has built his career at the intersection of literature and cinema. In recent years, he has directed a series of fictional works, which he has titled Las Shakespeariadas, in which he has reinterpreted William Shakespeare’s plays. For his most recent film, Tú me abrasas, he drew inspiration from a short story by Cesare Pavese and enriched it with the poetry of Sappho. In this masterclass, Matías Piñeiro will discuss the process of transposing the written or spoken word to the big screen: a journey through the creative writing process, from the conception of an idea to its mise-en-scène.
