Programme:
You Burn Me, Matías Piñeiro’s latest film, marks a turning point in his cinematic career. In this work, the Argentine director moves away from his reinterpretations of Shakespeare to adapt a chapter from Cesare Pavese’s Dialogues with Leuco, centred on the myth of Sappho and the nymph Britomartis. Avoiding a linear narrative, the film also weaves together a series of fragmentary works from Sappho’s poetry—recommended to Piñeiro by Agustina Muñoz, one of the actresses with whom he collaborates regularly—giving the work a poetic dimension that transcends the limits of the text.
Screening presented and followed by a talk with Matías Piñeiro and Garbiñe Ortega
