Programme:
Orphée is a poetic, dreamlike, and modernist reinterpretation of the legend of Orpheus, set in postwar Paris. The film—with extraordinarily elegant cinematography and inventive special effects—follows the musician and poet Orphée (Jean Marais) on a supernatural journey through the realms of the living and the dead. It is between these realms that he encounters a mysterious princess. Combining romance, fantasy, and tragedy, Jean Cocteau crafts a unique meditation on love, artistic creation, and mortality, transforming cinema into a poetic portal between worlds, much like the mirrors he evokes.
