Nosferasta: First Bite

Co-written by and starring the Rastafarian artist and musician Oba, whose origins and life story are reimagined in the film, Nosferasta: First Bite brings together vampires and colonists in a narrative shrouded in a cloud of smoke, spanning the past and the present. At the end of the 15th century, Oba sets sail on a ship carrying enslaved people from West Africa bound for the Caribbean. Washed ashore by the current, he is bitten by the vampire Christopher Columbus and goes on to pledge his loyalty to the ‘New World’—until he discovers Rastafarianism. The film won the short film competition at the Rotterdam Film Festival in 2022.
