The cinematic and poetic arts are deeply intertwined. Films inspired by poems, poems born from cinematic works, or filmmakers who root their deepest expressions in poetic language—these are just a few dimensions of this interdisciplinary relationship. In their visual, rhythmic and formal potency, the two arts are often brought into creative comparison. ‘A film is never really good unless the camera is an eye in the head of a poet,’ said Orson Welles. And through the words of poets, what makes a film unique? For the third edition of About a film, about a poem, we challenged the poet, filmmaker, playwright and lyricist Regina Guimarães to curate this exhibition. Her proposal celebrates a ‘plural femininity’, bringing together ten poets in dialogue with ten cinematic works directed by women, selected by her. The poems by Catarina Santiago, Gisela Casimiro, Margarida Vale de Gato, Marta Caldas, Patrícia Lino, Raquel Nobre Guerra, Rita Taborda Duarte, Sónia Baptista, Tatiana Faia and Teresa Coutinho are on display in Foyers 1 and 2.
