Queer Porto

Queer Porto returns to Batalha, Passos Manuel and Casa Comum, where, alongside the Official Competition and the Casa Comum Award for Portuguese short films, a series of themed sections help us understand how queer cinema views the delicate political and social situation in which we live, its impact on our communities, and how we can design proposals for change in this complex world. As its opening film, the festival will screen Duas Vezes João Liberada, a film premiered in the Perspectives section of the Berlinale, directed by Porto filmmaker Paula Tomás Marques. The different proposals presented discuss themes such as the queer approach to ecology as an alternative model for the planet, or queer resistance in areas of conflict and risk. In tribute to programmer Daniel Pinheiro, whose name will forever be linked to the creation and implementation of Queer Porto, a carte blanche is dedicated to his memory, featuring some of his favourite films by Derek Jarman, Shu Lea Cheang, Maja Borg and Soda Jerk.
