Noémia Delgado

This exhibition follows the winding path taken by Noémia Delgado, Portuguese director and author of the iconic documentary film Máscaras (1976). It draws on her personal archive, which was given to the Cinemateca Portuguesa-Museu do Cinema after her death.

Developed with the support of the Cinemateca Portuguesa-Museu do Cinema and based on a reconfiguration of the exhibition project held there in 2024, Batalha offers an intimate journey through the artist’s practice via her drawings, diaries, letters and poetry. Special attention is given to cinema, the art most cherished by Delgado and also her greatest challenge. By revealing the many ideas the director put down on paper but which never made it the screen, the exhibition helps reaffirm Noémia Delgado’s relevance within the history of Portuguese cinema.
