This year, MICAR celebrates the fact that we are here. We laugh side by side. We walk shoulder to shoulder. In joy—which is also struggle, nourishment and the seed of possible futures—we practise mutual care. We bear witness to the resistance, solidarity and cooperation that sustain us. Inspired by the tradition of Black joy* and the practices of affective resistance that radiate from it, at the 13th MICAR we dance furiously, as Alice Walker proposes. Not to forget the world, but because it is also through joy that we refuse to surrender, affirm life and make space to imagine and build other futures together.
