MICAR

The 12th edition of MICAR aims to showcase narratives of resistance and dignity, where migration is more than just moving from one place to another: it is affirming the right to exist, to be happy and to belong. Migration has existed for as long as humans have been around. People move, territories are traversed, peoples cross paths and borders are drawn. But while migration is as old as humanity itself, its narrative is never neutral. Migrants are often reduced to numbers, statistics or economic utility, ignoring their experiences and contexts of injustice. Borders, both physical and digital, act as mechanisms of exclusion, operating through treaties, forms and algorithms that discriminate on the basis of passports, skin colour or identity. The migrant body, especially when queer or racialised, faces multiple vulnerabilities and forms of surveillance. Migrant justice intersects with climate justice, reflecting unequal access to protection and resources.
