Cineclube Matinees

Based on the desire to revive a historical connection dating back to the 1940s, Batalha invited Cineclube do Porto to bring back the matinees that took place in this space for decades. Every other Sunday, we revisit key moments in the life of Portugal's oldest active film club, exploring its role in the city and the country.
Between January and March, the program focuses on the thriller genre, featuring films screened by Cineclube between 1949 and 1985, from different eras and with varied filmographies. In this gesture of revisiting the past, and aware of the lack of visibility given to women in filmmaking, the Cineclube introduces a film it has never screened before: Eyewitness, by Muriel Box — to date, the most prolific British filmmaker.
