New Moons: Maria Inês Gonçalves

A graduate of the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema de Lisboa and Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, in San Sebastián — with the support of a Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation grant —, Maria Inês Gonçalves has been developing a distinctive body of work in which memory, identity and fabulation intertwine to create an intimate and inventive form of cinema.

Her first short film, O Meu Pijama, made while still a student, premiered at the Festival Premiers Plans d’Angers, revealing a delicate gaze on childhood and its inner world. This was followed by O Banho, a master’s project that took her to festivals such as FIDMarseille, ZINEBI and IndieLisboa, where she consolidated both her filmic language and her presence on the international circuit.

In 2025, La durmiente marks the beginning of her independent career, winning the Tiger Shorts Award in Rotterdam with a singular approach to the historical figure of young princess Beatriz of Portugal.
