A visual artist and filmmaker, Alice dos Reis has produced a body of work that challenges the boundaries between cinema and contemporary art, using fiction as a critical lens through which to reflect on today’s political, ecological and technological issues.
In 2024, she was awarded the EDP Foundation New Artists Prize — a unanimous decision recognising the speculative strength and formal distinctiveness of her work. She holds a master’s degree in Fine Arts from the Sandberg Instituut, in Amsteerdam, supported by the Gulbenkian Foundation, and has also been a grantee of the Botín Foundation (2022–2023) and the Mondriaan Fonds (2020–2021).
Her work has been shown at institutions including MAAT, Serralves, Kunsthalle Lissabon, EYE Film Museum and Display, as well as at festivals and platforms such as DocLisboa, IndieLisboa, Vdrome and the Museum of the Moving Image (New York) — establishing Alice dos Reis as an artist who continuously reconfigures the ways we see and imagine the world, and one of the most distinctive voices of her generation.
At Batalha, we present a selection of her work.
