Indian Film Festival
To mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Portugal and India, the Indian Embassy in Lisbon is hosting the Indian Film Festival at the Batalha Centro de Cinema and the Almeida Garrett Library. The programme brings together a vibrant selection of films that reflect the diversity of the Indian film industry, spanning multiple states and languages.
The festival offers a nostalgic return to Indian cinema, popular with Portuguese audiences in the 1970s, recalling the cultural link between the two countries. At Batalha, the festival opens with the screening of RRR, a Telugu-language film set in the 1920s, which tells the unlikely friendship between two Indian freedom fighters who join forces to challenge the British Raj.
