Family Film Project

The Family Film Project is an international film festival that has been held annually in Porto since 2012, dedicated to exploring alternative forms of filmmaking. With a particular focus on archive, ethnographic and experimental cinema, including the aesthetic reworking of ‘home movies’ and found footage, the festival highlights the intimate and archaeological dimensions of the images. In addition to the usual competitive section and programmes dedicated to guest directors, the programme seeks to intersect cinema with other arts and fields of thought, incorporating performances, installations, masterclasses and conferences with international filmmakers, artists and researchers. At the same time, the Family Film Project runs a permanent open call for family archive material which may, in the future, be incorporated into special screenings, film-concerts or exhibitions. The 15th edition will take place at various cultural venues across the city of Porto, including Batalha.
