Family Film Project

The Family Film Project is an international film festival that has been held annually in Porto since 2012, dedicated to exploring alternative forms of filmmaking. With a special focus on archival, ethnographic and experimental cinema, including the aesthetic appropriation of ‘home movies’ and found footage, the festival values the intimate and archaeological dimension of images. In addition to the usual competitive section and the focus on guest directors, the programme seeks to cross cinema with other arts and fields of thought, integrating performances, installations, masterclasses and conferences with international filmmakers, artists and researchers. At the same time, the Family Film Project runs a permanent open call for family archive material that may, in the future, be included in special screenings, film concerts or exhibitions. The 14th edition will take place in October 2025, in various cultural spaces in the city of Porto. This year, the festival returns with a new visual identity, without ever abandoning its territories: memory, archives and ethnography.
