For film lovers aged 8 to 110, Batalha's new course includes six chapters that cover the history of the seventh art, from the first attempts to represent movement to the present day. Each chapter, with independent enrolment and attendance, includes theoretical and practical sessions, film screenings and even guided tours of very curious places. This course is coordinated by Miguel Ramos.
Chapter IV — Excursionist Group
This is a summer trip to places that summarise part of what we've been discovering throughout the course. We'll start the expedition in Bucelas, home to the National Archive of Moving Images of the Cinemateca Portuguesa, where we'll visit the pre-cinema collection and the magical places where many of the images that make us dream rest, are cared for and studied. On the second day, we'll head to Palmela for a guided tour of the Mechanical Music Museum, a house in the shape of a music box that contains a unique collection of falling machines. On the way back to Porto, we'll take a short trip to Golegã to visit the Carlos Relvas Studio-House. The Chalet, as it is known in those parts, was built 20 years before the first moving images appeared. It's there that we'll learn how the first film studios worked.
