In 1989, during the First Intifada, artist and filmmaker Kamal Aljafari was arrested by the Israeli occupation forces, where he met Abdel Rahim from Gaza. Twelve years later, in 2001, Aljafari traveled to Gaza with only a name, a photograph, a local guide — Hasan — and a Mini DV camera, in an attempt to find his fellow prisoner. The tapes resulting from this search, forgotten for more than two decades, now reveal a moving record of a territory and a people marked by loss. In the words of the director, this is “a film about catastrophe and the poetry that resists.”
Screening followed by talk with Kamal Aljafari
