Anna Karina's directorial debut, Vivre ensemble tells the story of Alain, a history teacher whose structured life with his childhood friend Sylvie is shaken when he meets Julie, a free-spirited and eccentric woman. Amidst jealousy, desire, and betrayals, Alain abandons his commitments, plunging into an existential chaos. Starring Karina herself, the film explores the contrasts and consequences of romantic choices. With a raw and minimalist aesthetic, it captures the fragility of relationships in the 1970s, revealing the contradictions of modern love against a grey urban backdrop, lived with intensity.
