Tokyo Godfathers

Gin, a middle-aged alcoholic; Miyuki, a runaway teenager; and Hana, a transgender woman, form an unlikely family of people living on the streets of Tokyo. On Christmas Eve, while rummaging through the trash, they find a newborn baby in a dumpster, whom Hana names Kyoko. With only a few clues about the child’s identity, the three set out on a journey through the city in search of the baby’s parents. Inspired by the biblical story of the Three Wise Men and John Ford’s western Three Godfathers, Tokyo Godfathers marks a turning point in Satoshi Kon’s work, revealing a warmer and more humanistic tone.
