In this romantic comedy directed by and starring Laurence Olivier, Marilyn Monroe returns to the role of an American showgirl. On a visit to London, the naïve young woman gets caught up in political intrigue when a foreign prince attempts to seduce her. The film shows Monroe in all her charming splendour, but the shoot was far from straightforward: Olivier, a master of the British stage, insisted on a strictly theatrical approach with exhausting rehearsals and multiple takes, while Monroe, believing in her own natural charisma, preferred to improvise. The clash between the two resulted in a strange kind of chemistry, in a film that continues to fascinate for the magnetic appeal of its star.
