In The Pines, Joshua Bonnetta documents the sound of a forest over the course of a year, using continuous recordings made from a pine tree in New York. Captured over 8,760 hours and analysed with bioacoustics tools, the sounds were composed into four seasonal chapters. The installation proposes a deep listening of the forest's acoustic ecology and asks: how does a soundscape change when humans disappear? A Canadian artist and filmmaker based in Munich, Bonnetta explores the intersection between sound, image, and ecology. His work has been exhibited at the Berlinale, MoMA, and the Tate Modern, among others.
