The Handmaid's Tale

Released five years after the publishing of Margaret Atwood’s famous novel, Schlöndorff’s film tells the dystopian tale in which, in the territory that was once the United States, Kate becomes a Handmaid after attempting to flee the regime. In a world where pollution has rendered most women infertile, Handmaids have the sole purpose of bearing children for the ruling elite. While trying to survive her new circumstances, she secretly becomes involved in a forbidden relationship with her “owner,” all while making contact with a resistance group.
