The Ernie Game is a psychological drama that explores the alienation and instability of youth in the 1960s. The film follows Ernie Turner, fresh out of a psychiatric hospital, as he tries to find his place in a world that seems indifferent to him. Becoming involved with two women at the same time, his relationships fuel his paranoia and lead him to impulsive and criminal acts. Straddling social commentary and intimacy, the plot reveals the tension between freedom, confusion and mental fragility, making this film one of the most innovative examples of Canadian fiction cinema—with a memorable musical cameo by Leonard Cohen.
