Tangerine

Living proof that a feature film can be shot entirely on a smartphone—in this case, three iPhone 5S devices, one of which is now housed at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures—Tangerine follows transgender sex worker Sin-Dee as she returns to her neighborhood. When she hears a rumor that her pimp boyfriend was unfaithful while she was in prison, Sin-Dee and her best friend Alexandra set out to investigate—taking them through various Los Angeles subcultures. The film highlights the potential of mobile phones to open new cinematic possibilities, free from the burdens of costly budgets and heavy equipment.
