Smog was the first Italian film shot entirely in the U.S. This melancholic and visionary road movie set in Los Angeles follows a Roman lawyer who lands in the city—an iconic symbol of the future—for 48 hours, leaving with fewer certainties than when he arrived. Directed by Franco Rossi, with music by Piero Umiliani and trumpet by Chet Baker, Smog dives into the architecture, alienation, and superficiality of the “economic miracle.” This new restoration adds 12 minutes of footage thanks to an interpositive discovered at Warner Bros., restoring the light and strangeness that this once-forgotten film has always embodied.
