In Sarawak, Malaysia, Kéria, an 11-year-old Indigenous girl, lives with her father, who works on a palm oil plantation. Unaware of her late mother’s Penan heritage, the young girl rescues an orphaned baby orangutan named Oshi. When her father teams up with a illegal hunter, Kéria joins forces with Oshi and her cousin (displaced by the expansion of the plantations) to protect the forest—in a confrontation that reveals the colonial and environmental violence still present in the region. From the director of My Life as a Courgette, this delicate stop-motion animation was screened at Cannes and Locarno and nominated for a César Award.
