In his debut film, Yasuo Furuhata plunges into the vibrant and raw nightlife of Shinjuku, where a young woman flees the rigidity of post-war Japanese society to live on the margins — amid jazz, drugs, and delinquency. Yôko rejects the domestic destiny imposed on women, but her freedom comes at a price: loneliness, judgment, and self-destruction. Filmed with pop energy and an ambiguous gaze, this is a portrait of a generation in ferment and of a woman who, in trying to exist outside the norms, exposes the fissures of a community still trapped in the past.
