Pink Narcissus

One of the most celebrated examples of gay eroticism in underground cinema, Pink Narcissus follows a young sex worker who, whilst waiting for his next client, takes refuge in a fantasy world to escape the harshness of everyday life. Filmed over seven years in James Bidgood’s New York flat, the film was eventually completed without the director’s involvement and premiered anonymously in 1971. Decades later, Bidgood’s authorship was finally recognised, confirming the film’s status as an essential landmark of queer aesthetics.
