In 1974, writer Linda Rosenkrantz recorded an audio conversation with acclaimed queer photographer Peter Hujar, one of the most important figures in New York City's cultural scene, about what he had done the day before. Based on the transcript of this unpublished conversation, Ira Sachs reimagines the encounter and dialogue between two friends. Set entirely in Linda's (Rebecca Hall) flat over the course of an afternoon, Hujar (Ben Whishaw) shares details of a day in his life, from intimate details of his interactions with icons such as William Burroughs, Susan Sontag and Allen Ginsberg, to the challenges of life in New York in the 1970s.
