Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence

Starring David Bowie and Ryūichi Sakamoto, Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence is a drama about the relationships between the West and the East. The story takes place during the Second World War in a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp and centres on two men: Major Jack Celliers, a rebellious and enigmatic prisoner, and Captain Yonoi, the camp’s strict commander, who is both fascinated and tormented by Celliers’ disobedience. Between the two, a bizarre dichotomy of attraction and repulsion is born, which jeopardises the power relations and dynamics of the camp.
