Produced by Katsuhiro Ōtomo, Memories is an animated triptych that brings together distinct visions of science fiction: Magnetic Rose, directed by Kōji Morimoto from a screenplay by Satoshi Kon that foreshadows themes that would come to define his work; Stink Bomb, a satire co-directed by Tensai Okamura and Ōtomo; and Cannon Fodder, an allegory on militarism written and directed by Ōtomo himself.
