In the 1970s in San Fernando Valley, the part of Los Angeles associated with the entertainment industry, Gary, a 15-year-old with a talent for business, falls in love with Alana, ten years older than him, who he meets at his school picture day. Out of her initial resistance and his confident insistence emerges a close friendship that turns into an improvised partnership. Together they start up unlikely businesses, meet eccentric figures and live through unexpected events. This wandering, nostalgia-filled coming-of-age story stars Cooper Hoffman, son of Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Alana Haim, from the band HAIM, both in their film debuts.
