Normal People Are Nothing Special

The Mental Health, Stigma and Resilience project, developed by professionals from the fields of health, culture, education and social communication, proposes a space for reflection on mental illness and the stigmas that surround it, promoting dialogue between science, health and society. In this context, Batalha is hosting part of a film programme dedicated to the theme, with two special screenings. At the opening, on World Mental Health Day, Sidney Lumet's Equus will be screened, an intense drama about repression and identity, starring Richard Burton and nominated for three Oscars. The programme closes with Les gens normaux n'ont rien d'exceptionnel by Laurence Ferreira Barbosa, which follows a young woman who voluntarily admits herself to a psychiatric institution, in a subtle critique of ideas of normality.
