Les Dimanches de Ville d'Avray

Winner of the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, Les dimanches de Ville d'Avray tells the story of the touching friendship between a war veteran and an orphaned child, raising questions about loneliness, misunderstanding and social judgement. Back in France, Pierre is tormented by having accidentally killed a Vietnamese child during the conflict. Consumed by guilt, he pretends to be the father of an orphan girl and, for several months, the two spend every Sunday together. However, the innocent bond between the two is viewed with suspicion by society, and a tragedy ensues.
