Le sourire vertical follows a history teacher and congressman who, after being abandoned by his wife, locks himself in his office. Disturbed by the event, he projects his most intimate ghosts onto the very narrative of humanity. Between the trial of Joan of Arc, delirious recreations of Hieronymus Bosch's paintings, and images that oscillate between newsreel and nightmare, the film exposes the fine line between history and delirium. Censored and the subject of scandal, the work was presented at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs at the Cannes Film Festival and is one of the films analyzed in A Forja 3.
Session programmed and presented by Saguenail.
