Tú me abrasas, Matías Piñeiro's latest film, marks a turning point in his cinematic career. In this work, the Argentine director moves away from Shakespeare adaptations to adapt a chapter from Cesare Pavese's Dialogues with Leucò, centered on the myth of Sappho and the nymph Britomartis. Avoiding a linear narrative, the film also intersects with a series of fragmentary works from Sappho's poetry — recommended to Piñeiro by Agustina Muñoz, one of the actresses with whom he frequently collaborates — giving the work a poetic dimension that transcends the limits of the text. The screening is preceded by the launch of the first monograph dedicated to Matías Piñeiro's filmmaking practice, a joint publication by Batalha Centro de Cinema and Fireflies Press.
