On a voyage of self-discovery in India, a young Australian woman (Kate Winslet) experiences a spiritual awakening. Fascinated by the mysteries she discovers in this other world, she falls under the influence of a religious guru. Worried and wanting to bring her back home, her family hire a famous American exit counsellor (Harvey Keitel) who specialises in “deprogramming” members of religious cults. Holy Smoke! premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
