Premiering three years after the summer of love in 1967, and with a full awareness that the world wasn't changed by flower power, the first feature length by special effects master Douglas Trumbull crystallises the feeling of its time. A spaceship carries domes filled with plants that can no longer survive in a polluted Earth. When the order comes to abandon this precious cargo, one crew member rebels. Profoundly melancholic and fearful of a corporate and environmentally reckless future, throughout the movie we can hear Joan Baez sing that "It's not too late".
