Programme:
Four irreverent young people set out from Calcutta to spend a weekend in a forest in the countryside, seeking to escape the monotony of urban life. Amid alcohol, seduction games, and encounters with the local population, they begin to confront insecurities and prejudices they would rather ignore. With humor and melancholy, Satyajit Ray paints a incisive portrait of urban youth in post-independence India. The 4K restoration we are screening was presented at Cannes in 2025 by The Film Foundation, as part of a project led by Wes Anderson and supervised by Ray’s family.
