Craig’s WifeCraig’s Wife

In Craig’s Wife, Dorothy Arzner — one of the few female filmmakers to make her mark in Hollywood in the 1930s and 1940s — paints a ruthless portrait of Harriet Craig, a high-society woman obsessed with appearances and social status. Married for convenience, Harriet rules the household with her own set of rules, turning it into a suffocating space. Over the course of twenty-four decisive hours, the marriage begins to unravel, revealing the emotional void behind her need for control. Inspired by George Kelly’s award-winning play, the film is an intense character study of loneliness, ambition and domination.
