On a dairy farm in Kent, England, we follow the daily life of a cow named Luma, from the birth of her calf to the final moments of her life. Through sparse dialogue and a sensory, intimate approach, Arnold’s first foray into the documentary genre raises questions about consumption, exploitation, and empathy. According to the director, the film, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, “is an effort to give cows our full attention. To bring us closer to them. To contemplate their beauty and the challenges of their lives. Not in a romanticized way, but in a realistic way.”
