In September, Batalha is launching the first book dedicated to the practice of filmmaker and photographer Cláudia Varejão, whose films have been selected and awarded prizes at some of the most prestigious festivals, such as Locarno, Rotterdam, Visions du Réel, Cinéma du Réel, and the Venice Biennale, among others. The book, edited by Guilherme Blanc in dialogue with the filmmaker, includes texts by Catarina Vasconcelos, Gaia Furrer, Genevieve Yue, Maria Filomena Molder, and Rachael Rakes, as well as never-before-seen photographs by the author. To mark the publication's launch, Joana Gama will perform a new composition live, developed from the music of the film Kora — Cláudia Varejão's most recent short film —, accompanying a visual work the filmmaker created for this event.
Screening followed by a talk with Cláudia Varejão and Anabela Mota Ribeiro (journalist).
