After the Night

Basil da Cunha’s first feature film, which premiered in the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, tells the story of Sombra (“Shadow”), a man who has recently left prison to return to his life as a drug dealer in the neighbourhood of Reboleira. Between the borrowed money he is unable to re-earn, what he already owes, an unusual iguana, a female neighbour who is always close by and a gang leader who doubts his good faith, Sombra begins to think that it may have been better, in fact, to have stayed “inside”. Até Ver a Luz was also in competition at Locarno and Rotterdam festivals.
