Amor e Dedinhos de Pé is the screen adaptation of the book of the same name by Henrique de Senna Fernandes. The film presents a historical reconstruction of Portugal’s colony in Macau, established in the middle of the 16th century but here shown in the year 1900. It follows Francisco Frontaria (Joaquim de Almeida), a bon vivant who hops between the sumptuous salons of the Cidade Cristã and the gloomy alleyways of the Bairro Chinês, until he is met with the possibility of redemption in the form of a past love. Out of this intimate narrative emerges a portrait of an inward-looking Portuguese society, closed off from the customs of the East.
