Aloïse Corbaz, one of the best-known figures in art brut, sees her life change when she is diagnosed with schizophrenia and admitted to a psychiatric institution, where she will remain for more than four decades. Liliane de Kermadec explores the Swiss artist’s years of confinement and how writing and painting became the means through which she expressed her imagination. Starring Isabelle Huppert in one of her earliest roles and Delphine Seyrig as the adult Aloïse, the film offers a perspective on mental illness free from stereotypes.
