With this cinematic adaptation of the opera by Jiří Suchý and Jiří Šlitr, Miloš Forman returns to a work he had previously adapted for television in the 1960s, in one of his earliest works. In it, Uli and Vanilka are on the verge of divorce when they receive a telegram from a wealthy aunt in Liverpool, who intends to leave one million pounds to Vanilka’s future child. From that moment on, the couple, their lawyer, the aunt, and the mailman become entangled in a series of romantic intrigues and opportunistic schemes in an attempt to secure the fortune, in a satire on ambition and capitalism. A Walk Worthwhile was Forman’s last film.
