Programme:
Believed lost for a century, this silent film (without any soundtrack), directed by John Ford, was found in a warehouse in Santiago, hidden among old reels. Restored and digitized by the Chilean National Film Archive, it retains the tones of 1918 and, at the request of the person who found it, preserves some signs of aging. Starring Harry Carey, it is one of 26 films in which Ford and the actor worked together, but one of the few that can currently be seen in its entirety. Set during the American Civil War, the film stands out for addressing themes that were uncommon in cinema at the time: social inequality, class struggle, and marginalization.
